    Hamburg Exchange 2017

    4th Jul 2017

The first leg of the Hamburg Exchange 2017 was a huge success. On 14th June we welcomed 17 pupils and 2 members of staff from our partner school in Hamburg, Germany. The pupils stayed with Brigshaw pupils and their families and took part in various activities and visits throughout the week. We spent a lovely day exploring the wonderful city of York, which included climbing Cliffords Tower and a wander around the Roman bar walls. The group also spent a day in Whitby, where they were treated to some traditional and very tasty fish and chips. On the Monday, the German pupils attended lessons with their exchange partners and managed to get a flavour of what it is like to go to school here in Leeds. In the evening we threw a farewell party and the week finally ended very early on Wednesday morning with some very tearful goodbyes.

    3rd Jul 2017

On the 21st June 5 of our talented Year 8 linguists went to York St John University to take part in the annual 'Eurofest event'. They prepared and ran a tourist Information stand on the 'Schwarzwald' area and must have impressed the judges as they won 'Best use of German Language' on the day! The students also had a tour around the campus and got a feel for University life as well as taking part in a sign language work shop which they really enjoyed. All 5 students were a credit to the school and the spirit of Eurofest!

    Duke of Edinburgh Assessed Expedition

    25th Jun 2017

Phew! That was hard work! Carried EVERYTHING we needed for two whole days - food, clothes, cookers, tents, everything - and had to find our way using our maps and route cards (that's directions to you) we'd written ourselves 8 miles each day, while the teachers just popped up every now and then having driven there in the minibuses.
39 year 10s had the culmination of 8 months hard work this weekend when they did their DofE assessed expedition, and every single one of them was successful. They walked, camped and cooked in the rain on Friday, but the weather was a bit kinder to them on Saturday. Not only have they done this expedition, and a similar training one a month ago, they have also been doing a skill, a physical activity, and volunteering in the community for the past 6 months. They are truly awesome young people!
