A group of 40 Brigshaw students were given a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2017 Opening Ceremony. This international event was televised on Sky Sports 2 which included a rehearsal day on Thursday 22nd June and the opening ceremony itself on Saturday 24th June at Derbyshire Cricket Ground.

Students were responsible for representing and introducing the countries involved in the tournament through coloured silks. The presentation of the ceremony was exceptional and I was incredibly proud of how well the students listened and acted on their very important roles. This opportunity was a great challenge for the students and their professionalism, leadership and teamwork was a real credit to the event and to our school. Students were also given the opportunity to play and coach some cricket sessions with the England players.

I would like to thank Michaela Anderson (Castleford Tigers Cheerleading coach) and Mr Brennan who was involved in the organisation of this opportunity, and to Mrs Simpson, Mr Round and Mr Sanderson who supervised the trip.

Some lovely feedback on the trip below:

I’m Phil the World Cup Volunteer who helped with the opening ceremony on Thursday and Saturday

I Wanted to drop you a quick line as I missed seeing you all before you left on Saturday

I thought all the students were a credit to their school – enthusiastic, energetic, fun but always respectful and well-behaved.  In particular it was a pleasure to work with team India – Abi, Chloe, Briony, Louis and the four others girls. They were prepared to put up with me, always listened, tried hard and seemed to enjoy themselves and engage in the event
